Implenia has secured contracts in Germany and Norway for the construction of three bridges and a tunnel, with a total value of approximately €350m ($406.7m).

In Germany, a joint venture led by Implenia, along with DSD Brückenbau, Victor Buyck Steel Construction, and Stahl Technologie Niesky, will construct the Peene bridge.

The structure will connect Usedom island to the mainland via an extradosed bridge over the Peenestrom strait.

The project also includes the Wolgast foreland bridge and Sauziner Bay bridge, spanning roughly 1.4km in total.

Construction work was launched last month and is scheduled to finish in February 2030.

Also in Germany, Implenia is acting as technical lead in partnership with Plauen Stahl Technologie for the demolition and replacement of the Marktbreit bridge over the Main river on the A7 motorway corridor.

The new steel composite box girder bridge will be 925m long and 31m wide.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology is being used throughout planning and construction.

Traffic will remain operational during building work, which started in autumn 2025 and will continue until 2033.

In Norway, AF Gruppen has commissioned Implenia to construct the Lågen bridge on the new E6 Roterud–Storhove motorway section.

Measuring 552m in length and 20m wide, this four-lane concrete box girder bridge spans the Lågen river north of Lillehammer. Ten piers will support spans reaching up to 61m.

Construction began in October 2025, using incremental launch methods to reduce impact on local ecology.

Environmental measures are being implemented to protect wildlife habitats during construction.

For Frankfurt am Main’s Riederwald district, Autobahn awarded a contract for phase one of a new motorway tunnel to a consortium comprising Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau, Bickhardt Bau, and Implenia. Autobahn comes under Germany’s Ministry of Transport.

The new tunnel will extend approximately 1.1km below Riederwald using open trench methods within a sealed excavation pit.

A closed reinforced concrete frame forms the main structure with staggered portals for both traffic directions.

Filters are being installed for groundwater management post-construction.

Work commenced in 2025 with completion expected after about three years.

Implenia civil engineering division head Erwin Scherer said: “Worth more than €300m, these three additional contracts for the construction of large and challenging bridges complement our current portfolio of projects and build on our past experience in this type of work.”
