
The Western Australia (WA) Government has issued an invitation to industry stakeholders for submissions of expressions of interest (EOI) for the A$700m ($460m) enhancement of the Kwinana Freeway.
Considered to be a vital transport artery in Perth, the Kwinana Freeway accommodates roughly 100,000 vehicle movements on weekdays, according to the state government.

The upgrade project aims to alleviate congestion and improve travel times for commuters from the southern suburbs and those heading to the south-west of the region.
It will encompass the construction of an additional lane on both sides between Russell Road and Mortimer Road, expanding the stretch from two lanes to three.
Additionally, a new lane will be added to the southbound section between Roe Highway and Berrigan Drive, increasing the number of lanes from four to five.
The northbound section from Russell Road to Beeliar Drive will also see the addition of a lane, taking it from three lanes to four.

By GlobalDataTo further enhance traffic management, new coordinated ramp signals will be installed on the northbound on-ramps from Safety Bay Road to Roe Highway.
Groundwork for the project such as community and stakeholder engagement, utility surveys, and geotechnical and environmental probes are already in progress.
These preliminary activities are intended to shape the final road designs.
Subject to obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals, the commencement of construction work is anticipated in early 2027, with a projected completion date in 2029.
WA Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti said: “Once complete the Kwinana Freeway Upgrade project will improve road safety and ease congestion for the growing residential, commercial and industrial precincts between Perth and Rockingham.
“The Kwinana Freeway Upgrade follows the recent opening of the new Thornlie-Cockburn rail line and represents our ongoing investment in improving the transport network across Perth’s southern suburbs.”
Funding for the Kwinana Freeway Upgrade is being shared equally between the Albanese and Cook Labor governments. Both governments have committed A$350m each to the project.
The EOI process is designed to shortlist competent design and construction companies that will be invited to proceed to the subsequent tendering stage.
