The Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in the US has reopened after a two-year, $22m restoration and expansion.
The renovation of the building includes the construction of the museum’s new Collections Wing, designed by architects Eliel and Eero Saarinen, on the 320-acre campus of the century-old Cranbrook Educational Community.
The 20,000ft Collections Wing doubles the museum’s usable floor space and includes storage and modern mechanical systems.
The expansion will make accessible about 6,000 works of art, architecture and design while the glass walls will allow visitors to see ceramics and other collections in vaults.
The museum also includes rooms for storing ceramics and studying prints.
