Story Homes has started work on a £40m housing development at Shotley Bridge, County Durham, UK.

The company will build 240 new homes over seven years on the site next to a new hospital under a deal with the Homes and Communities Agency, the site owner.

As part of the Shotley Bridge development, Story Homes will build 12 two-bed apartments, 66 two-bed houses, 59 three-bed houses, 94 four-bed houses and nine five-bed houses.
The two, three, four and five-bedroom houses will be built by incorporating high-quality brick and buff stone and using mid-grey slate roof covering.

By GlobalDataStory Homes will also develop 60 affordable homes, half of which will be for rent; the other 30 homes will be sold to local people at a discounted rate.
Homes and Communities Agency area manager Gill Hay said: "The high levels of affordable homes will mean that local people will be able to live in the house they want and still stay in the community."
Durham County Council cabinet member for housing Cllr Clive Robson said: "This is an exciting time for Consett and the surrounding area, with a number of key developments taking off."
"I am particularly pleased to welcome the additional number of affordable homes which will make a significant contribution towards the council’s overall target for the county," Robson said.
