Canary Wharf Group has started construction of 25 Churchill Place in central London, UK, which will be the new headquarters of the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The project will see construction of a 20-storey, 500,000ft² building in London’s Docklands, adjacent to Wood Wharf, a 4.6mft² mixed-use future development site owned by Canary Wharf Group.
Canary Wharf Group managing director of development John Pagano said: "25 Churchill Place will provide a major boost to the local economy in terms of jobs and contracts and retaining yet another world-class organisation in central London."
After completion, 25 Churchill Place is expected to be one of the most energy-efficient office buildings on the Canary Wharf Estate.
The building will feature efficient air-conditioning equipment that recycles energy from exhaust air, as well as photovoltaic cells to generate energy from the sun’s rays and elevators that store and reuse energy elsewhere in the building.

By GlobalDataIt will have a green roof to enhance biodiversity and energy efficiency and the building is expected to secure a BREEAM environmental performance rating of excellent.
Canary Wharf Contractors, a subsidiary of Canary Wharf Group, has undertaken construction of the shell, core and fit out of the building while Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates is the architect for the project.
UK-based concrete contractor Byrne Bros will provide the concrete for the building, while Seele will supply and install the cladding.
Kone will install the elevators, including their environmentally friendly lift motors for energy storage and reuse
Canary Wharf Group is planning to award contracts later this year for structural steel and mechanical and electrical packages.
In December 2011, Canary Wharf Group secured a £190m development and investment loan for the development of 25 Churchill Place.
Construction of the building is scheduled to be completed in late 2014.
