Finnish construction company YIT is set to start construction on Kankaan Arkki, an office block in the city of Jyväskylä, Finland.

To be located in Kangas area, the office block is expected to be completed early next year. The seven-storey building will occupy a total floor area of more than 7,000m², of which 80% is claimed to have been leased out.

Kankaan Arkki will sit next to the old Kangas paper mill by the River Tourujoki. Claimed to have a combination of modern business premises in an old industrial setting, the new building will have multifunctional space that could be customised based on customers’ preferences and needs.

YIT also stated that indoor air quality, energy efficiency and the functionality of the premises have been given special attention. The office development is designed to be eligible for LEED green building certification.

Businesses which choose Kankaan Arkki, will be offered a wide range of services including conference, cleaning, photocopying, mailing and customer services. The new building will also include a café and restaurant with an outdoor terrace in the entrance hall of the building.

Meetings can be held at adaptable conference rooms. The car park will be built next to the building. An indoor parking facility in the Kangas area will also be constructed soon, which will be located in the immediate vicinity of the building, YIT said.

Once completed, the new building Kankaan Arkki will house more than one thousand people working and living in Kangas, Jyväskylä.

YIT vice president Marjaana Nissilä-Ryytty said: “For YIT, Kankaan Arkki is a unique project in many ways as we will concentrate all our operations and services in Kangas. We also have a very strong position as a housing developer in Kangas. Kankaan Arkki will also mean more jobs in Kangas, which is bound to have a positive impact on residential construction in the area.”

For YIT and Jykia, the building is the first joint venture, where YIT has been given the responsibility of the design and construction of the building and Jykia will be responsible for the acquisition of tenants and concept development.

Tenants at the new building include Accountor, Juvenes, Monetra, Yritystehdas and YIT.

City of Jyväskylä Business Development and Employment director Anne Sandelin said: “The rapid development of Kangas with high quality standards is very important to us from the point of view of the vitality of Jyväskylä. Kankaan Arkki will provide businesses from Jyväskylä and elsewhere with new growth opportunities and high-quality office space in a unique environment near the city centre.”
