Turner Construction Company has commenced construction on the Baptist Health Sunrise Hospital in western Broward County, Florida, US, following a formal groundbreaking ceremony attended by Baptist Health representatives and local officials.
The project, with an estimated cost exceeding $500m, aims to enhance healthcare provision throughout the region.
Planners anticipate that the new hospital will begin admitting patients in 2029.
The facility will open with a 30-bed emergency department offering triage services and continuous emergency care, alongside 100 inpatient beds at full capacity, including 10 beds for critical care.
The hospital design allows for future expansion to accommodate additional patient needs as required.
Surgical capabilities will consist of four suites equipped for robotic-assisted procedures, with space allocated for further operating theatres if demand grows.
A medical office building, covering an area of approximately 25,000ft², will house a variety of clinical services on site.
The campus will also feature a central energy plant intended to maintain steady power supplies and mechanical system function during outages or severe weather conditions.
This infrastructure is intended to sustain essential hospital operations and support uninterrupted patient treatment.
Developers have prioritised adaptability by integrating modern medical technology and flexible layouts within the building’s design.
These features enable the hospital to respond to changes in healthcare delivery and support long-term growth as population needs evolve.
Turner Construction Company general manager and vice president Kevin McCormick said: “This project reflects a significant investment in the future of healthcare for the Sunrise community.
“Turner is proud to partner with Baptist Health on a hospital that prioritises resiliency, advanced technology, and a patient-focused environment while enabling flexibility to grow alongside the community it serves.”
The hospital represents one of Baptist Health’s significant capital projects in recent years, targeting improved access to emergency, inpatient, and surgical services across western Broward County.
Last month, Turner Construction introduced First Equipment Company (FEC), a centralised operation that offers equipment rental and site services to projects.
