New waste treatment plant begins operations in Gush Dan

The facility is hoped to kerb the issue of rising construction waste created in Gush Dan and the wider community.

July 11 2023

A new advanced facility built to treat construction waste has commenced operations in Tel Aviv's Gush Dan area in Israel.

Construction of the waste treatment plant was completed recently, reported ANI News.

The plan to construct the facility in the metropolitan area was proposed by Israel's Ministry of Environmental Protection.

The Tel Aviv District Planning and Construction Committee of Israel, chaired by Eran Nitzan, granted its approval for the plant.

The facility is expected to serve as a solution for the growing problem of construction waste creation in Gush Dan, where several development projects are scheduled to launch over the next few years.

Rapid developments in the area raise severe environmental and economic concerns, as well as hygienic and safety risks.

In Israel, new construction projects, building demolitions/renovations, and the general construction of infrastructure together result in the generation of roughly 7.3 million tonnes of construction waste annually, according to estimates from the ministry.

It is also estimated that less than six million tonnes of this construction waste reach authorised treatment facilities while more than one million tonnes are illegally dumped in open areas.

The projected annual increase in construction waste is currently estimated at 2% in the country.
