The construction of Venezia Station, a key part of Rome's Metro Line C in Italy, has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the first phase of its perimeter walls.

The work, commissioned by Roma Metropolitane on behalf of Roma Capitale, is being led by a consortium of Webuild and Vianini Lavori.

A 'hydro-milling' machine, standing at 24.5m and weighing 185 tons, has finished constructing 124 diaphragms, which will form the perimeter walls of the underground box structure where the station will be built.

This marks the completion of the first phase, with a total of 352 underground panels planned for the three excavation phases of the project.

Venezia Station will span six underground levels and provide direct access to significant cultural sites in Rome, including Palazzo Venezia, the Vittoriano, and Fori Imperiali.

The station will also feature an archaeological museum on its first level, displaying artefacts discovered during the excavation.

The hydro-milling machine has recently been moved to Via dei Fori Imperiali to continue work on another side of the square.

This relocation will enable the restoration of road mobility and traffic on the Palazzo Venezia side of the square and facilitate the construction of the remaining diaphragms.

The construction site also plays a role in the 'Murales' urban regeneration project, which turns the area into an open-air contemporary art exhibition every four months.

The current highlight is 'Ci eleviamo sollevando gli altri' by artist Marinella Senatore, supported by the consortium, with the patronage of Roma Capitale.

Line C of Rome's metro, where Venezia Station will be located, stretches 26km, connecting the city's suburbs to the city centre.

Tests are underway on a 3km section from the already operational San Giovanni station to the future Colosseo/Fori Imperiali station.

Webuild has experience in metro construction, with 891km of new metro lines built worldwide. including recent projects in Milan, Italy, Thessaloniki, Greece, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Ongoing projects include the Suburban Rail Loop East in Melbourne, Australia, and the finalisation of the Capodichino station of Line 1 in Italy, where a construction milestone was attained with the completion of metal roofing.
