Turner & Townsend has been appointed to the North Eastern Universities Purchasing Consortium (NEUPC) Construction Project Management and Conservation Professional Services Framework (CPMCPS), securing a role in the development of university infrastructure in the North East of England.
The company has obtained the first place on Lot A as part of CPMCPS.
This appointment allows Turner & Townsend to offer services directly to all five NEUPC member universities, comprising Durham University, Newcastle University, Northumbria University, the University of Sunderland, and Teesside University, as well as the UK college group NCG.
The direct access provided by this framework eliminates the need for further competition, thereby streamlining procurement processes and expediting project timelines, states the company.
Turner & Townsend boasts a 15-year association with NEUPC and over two decades of collaboration with the region's universities.
The company will provide a range of services such as project management and leadership, contract administration, cost and commercial management, quantity surveying, advisory services, and health and safety advice.
It will also oversee building information modelling, sustainability consultancy services, and aid the universities and NCG with their carbon reduction programmes.
The initial two-year term of the appointment comes with an option to extend for an additional four years.
The framework is designed to support a variety of capital investment projects, including the construction of new teaching and research facilities, student housing, and low-carbon building improvements.
These projects are said to align with the universities' net-zero targets and aim to benefit the wider community through the provision of shared public spaces and cultural venues.
The NEUPC universities collectively educate over 120,000 students and make a significant contribution to the UK economy, adding £2.7bn ($3.68bn) and supporting over 33,500 jobs.
In the next five years, they anticipate training 11,000 nurses, 4,000 doctors, and 8,000 teachers, with many expected to remain and work in the region.
