US-based Turner Construction Company has been named the lead builder for American football team Republic Football Club's (FC) new 12,000-seat stadium in Sacramento, Northern California.

Turner, with a history of sports venue construction, will use its expertise and local connections to create the venue, which is designed to be a hub for sports, as well as arts and civic activities.

In collaboration with Republic FC, Turner is also focusing on community benefits beyond the physical construction. Initiatives to support workforce development, boost local businesses, and provide long-term economic benefits are reportedly integral to their partnership.

The construction of the stadium is expected to generate more than 1,200 jobs and inject over $240m into the local economy.

Ground-breaking on the development is scheduled for later this year.

The stadium's anticipated opening in 2027 is set to add approximately 40 large events annually to Sacramento's entertainment offerings.

Season ticket memberships and premium seating options are expected to commence later in the year.

Turner Construction Company vice-president and general manager Drake Costa said: “What an incredible moment to pause and celebrate what this project means in forward progress and lasting impact for the community we live and work in.

“With a clear alignment in our collective core values, we are excited for what this project means for Sacramento, beyond the build. We are proud to join with Wilton Rancheria and Republic FC to build a stadium that’s grounded in community, rooted in history, and built for the future of Sacramento.”

Turner has previously engaged in building various sports facilities, including the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento and Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

The Sacramento stadium project follows the recent topping out of the $2.1bn Highmark Stadium project in New York, US, with Turner Construction alongside Gilbane Building Company serving as construction managers.
