Greenville Arena District has appointed Turner as the construction manager for the $182m Bon Secours Wellness Arena Master Plan, a project aimed at transforming the 12-acre site in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, US.

The multi-phase project is set to modernise the existing arena, introduce a new 6,500-seat outdoor amphitheatre, and expand the surrounding entertainment district.

Plans for the site include significant improvements to both the interior and exterior of the facility.

Upgrades will see the expansion of back-of-house areas such as loading docks, which will double from two to four, along with increased storage, enhanced dressing rooms and the addition of 18,000ft² of flex-space areas.

The concourse level will be enlarged by 22,000ft², providing more accessible seating, additional restrooms, improved circulation, and an expanded range of food and beverage options.

Redesigned entrances, including a new western lobby, are intended to improve crowd flow and create more space for community events.

The exterior design will feature a new facade inspired by the region’s landscape, aiming to establish an architectural landmark within Greenville.

The development is projected to result in the creation of 545 permanent jobs, with anticipated annual compensation of $15m and an annual economic impact estimated at $63m.

Funding for the initiative will come from arena-generated revenues, hospitality tax, and accommodations tax, with no tax increase required for Greenville County residents.

Turner will oversee all stages of construction, with a focus on maximising participation by local contractors and workforce.

Bon Secours Wellness Arena general manager Beth Paul said: “This is exactly the kind of partner we were looking for. Turner understands that this project belongs to Greenville, and that means making sure the construction phase creates real opportunities for local people and businesses, not just a finished building.”

Turner brings prior experience in large-scale sports and entertainment projects nationwide, and its local team has managed projects including the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine at Clemson University.
