A joint venture between Skanska and Flatiron has secured a new contract from Los Angeles World Airports to advance the Airfield and Terminal Modernization Program (ATMP) Roadway Improvements project at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The combined contract value stands at $868m, with Skanska's share accounting for $445m.

The company will recognise its portion in its US order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2025.

The scheme involves upgrading over 6km of roads, constructing and retrofitting bridges, improving traffic signal infrastructure and introducing advanced traffic monitoring systems at LAX.

The work aims to adjust existing airport access routes while staying within the current site boundaries.

Construction started in July 2025 and is scheduled to finish by the end of 2030.

The ATMP Roadway Improvements Project forms part of broader efforts to modernise LAX, aiming to address congestion on local roads such as Sepulveda Boulevard by providing dedicated airport lanes and easing queuing into the Central Terminal Area.

The development supports a larger programme designed to accommodate current and future passenger traffic levels associated with a major international transport facility.

Skanska is a construction and project development company with operations spanning the Nordics, Europe and the US.

In 2024, it reported revenue of Skr177bn and employs approximately 26,300 individuals.

Last year, Skanska secured multiple construction contracts across Norway, Slovakia and the US.

In Norway, the company is committing Nkr768m ($76.9m) towards the Løkeberggrenda residential project in Bærum.

The construction agreement for this project totals Nkr373m, which Skanska will include in its Nordic order bookings for the third quarter of 2025.

Plans for Løkeberggrenda feature ten buildings housing 58 apartments and 28 rowhouses.

Construction is set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027.

In addition to its Nordic activities, Skanska has signed a $55m renovation contract with a university in New York.
