Morgan Sindall wins Norfolk diagnostic centre contract

The company will use its own carbon-reduction tool to ensure the building has a reduced carbon output.

UK-based Morgan Sindall Construction has won a contract to build a £25m diagnostic centre close to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, UK.

The builder's Eastern Counties business was selected by the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals (NNUH) National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust, via the NHS' Shared Business Services framework.

The new 40,000ft² NNUH Diagnostic Centre will comprise five MRI machines, four CT scanners, two X-ray machines, as well as two ultrasound rooms.

It will be located in the Norwich Research Park close to the Quadram Institute, linking the existing facilities at the hospitals to the new services.

In line with the rest of the University Hospital estate's design, a steel frame with a brick facade will be used.

The centre is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating and is also said to benefit from an air source heat pump system.

Morgan Sindall will use CarboniCa, its carbon-reduction tool, for the project as part of its Intelligent Solutions approach, thereby reducing potential carbon outputs across the building's life-cycle.

Morgan Sindall's Eastern Counties' area director Alister Broadberry said: “Bringing essential, specialist services closer to local communities is paramount in serving the area in which we operate, as new facilities such as Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital’s diagnostic centre will play a key role in supporting patients and healthcare staff in the rapid diagnosis of disease, relieving pressure on waiting times and hospital workloads.”
