Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to move ahead with expansion project

The expansion will include improving the nearby park to make it more user-friendly and accessible for people with disabilities.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio, US, has received approval from the Cleveland Planning Commission for a $100m expansion project.

This 50,000ft expansion project is expected to break ground later this year, following this design approval.

The project plans to improve the experience for visitors by almost doubling the original size of the iconic pyramid-shaped museum, reported New York Post.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame CEO Greg Harris said: “We’re in our 28th year, we’ve had 14 million guests and we’ve had a $2bn economic impact to the region.

“One of the reasons for being here today is because we want to expand the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to better serve our community, to better grow our audiences, and to have a more positive effect on Cleveland.”

The scope of the expansion project includes a new entry lobby and open space, along with an acoustically engineered and subdivided performance area, a classroom, and a 1,350-capacity event hall.

Along with the neighbouring Great Lakes Science Center, the extension will contain a museum campus with a public green space for visitors.

Harris added: “As part of this project, we’re going to be investing a lot of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame resources into making the green space a far more user-friendly public park, for the whole community.

“It’s going to have a gentle 5% or less grade, so it’s ADA [Americans with Disabilities Act] accessible from the lake up to the street, and it’s going to give the public a chance to really engage with the lakefront in a way they can’t do it at present.”
