P&G Gillette has announced plans to acquire 232 A Street in South Boston, US, to serve as its new global headquarters and technical innovation centre.

The company will invest nearly $1bn in the property, which will consolidate commercial operations and research and development functions at a site permitted for 324,315ft² of research space, retail outlets and community amenities.

Gillette’s decision confirms that Boston will remain the location of its headquarters, reinforcing its presence in Massachusetts and continuing a history in the city dating back more than 125 years.

The purchase of 232 A Street will also activate several public commitments made in earlier site planning, including the delivery of 1.5 acres of publicly accessible open space along the Fort Point Channel.

Planned improvements include new sidewalks, bike lanes, a waterfront park, upgrades to the Harborwalk and monetary contributions for public art and shuttle services.

P&G Gillette CEO Gary Coombe said: “We are investing nearly $1bn in this site and our future South Boston facility, reflecting our confidence in Boston as a global innovation hub and our intention to anchor this innovation district for years to come.

“Our new space will give our employees the tools, capabilities and environment to collaborate and inspire each other every day. I know that our entire team is proud to continue to call Boston home.”

In parallel with the new headquarters project, Gillette is expanding its Andover manufacturing facility.

Construction began in April 2025 on a new advanced production site expected to increase capacity for blade and razor manufacturing, packaging operations and direct-to-consumer fulfilment.

The transfer of cutting-edge manufacturing from South Boston to Andover is scheduled to start in 2026, with hundreds of skilled employees moving to the upgraded facility.

The overall transformation represents an estimated $1.5bn investment across Massachusetts. The redevelopment at South Boston extends beyond the headquarters move.

Gillette is preparing a master plan for its existing 31-acre campus, aiming to support economic development, housing and broader community objectives.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said: “This new development will keep hundreds of high-tech research and development jobs in the city, and serves as a testament to the strength of our economy as a global hub for innovation and technology.”

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said: “Gillette has been part of Massachusetts’ story for more than a century, and this nearly $1bn investment in a new global headquarters and technical innovation centre in South Boston is a powerful vote of confidence in our state.”

CBRE’s brokerage team led by Jonathan Varholak managed the acquisition process on behalf of the company.
