Peab has received the contract to construct Hitachi Energy's new campus at Finnslätten in Västerås, Sweden.

The contract is valued at Skr1.1bn ($117.34m), the Swedish construction company said in a press release.

The facility, intended to house all of the company's employees in Västerås, will extend over roughly 40,000m².

It will feature a research and development centre, office spaces, and a factory dedicated to producing network automation products.

Tobias Hansson, CEO of Hitachi Energy in Sweden, said: "With our new campus in Västerås we’re taking an important step towards enabling growth in the city. It's very exciting to see how everything is starting to take shape, and we look forward to a great collaboration with Peab.”

Before this construction contract, there was a first-phase agreement in which Peab collaborated with Hitachi Energy to enhance the project by ensuring the appropriate quality and addressing risks and uncertainties.

The project is now moving into the second phase, which involves finalising a construction contract.

Peab region manager Nils Staffansson said: "We’re proud that we’re at the production phase of this project now. We have the necessary expertise and capacity at Peab to carry out the work with high quality and efficiency.

“It's inspiring to see the way our plans are turning into concrete construction and we look forward to continuing to contribute to Hitachi Energy's investment in Västerås."

The project is a turnkey contract in collaboration, with construction scheduled to begin in October 2025.

Completion is anticipated by December 2027.

In July this year, ATS Kraftservice, a subsidiary of Peab, secured a five-year framework contract valued at Skr1.15bn for an energy grid project in Sweden.
