The University of Mississippi in the US has launched a series of building works across its campus as 170 separate construction projects, valued at approximately $1.3bn, continue into the new academic year.
These developments span academic facilities, student accommodation, and infrastructure upgrades.
The University of Mississippi chancellor Glenn Boyce said: “Every single one of these projects is advancing our mission. I am confident that what we will accomplish here in the next two to three years will carry this university forward for the next 40.”
One of the largest projects is the Kincannon Site Student Housing development. The north building is nearing its top floor while work continues on the south building, where modular units are expected to be installed within the next six weeks.
The target completion and occupation date for this complex is August 2027.
Nearby, work is underway at the West Row Student Housing site. Demolition of the former married student housing and utility relocations are expected to be completed next month.
New building construction will follow, with completion planned for August 2028.
The Tad Smith Coliseum is currently being dismantled, with a focus on salvaging and recycling materials. This demolition is set to be finished by the end of October.
Elsewhere, the Early Learning and Evaluation Center is under construction at the South Oxford Center and scheduled for completion in mid-2027.
The university is also renovating its data centre and adding to it, as well as commissioning the new Northwest Mechanical Plant.
Major construction on both projects is complete, and they remain on schedule for commissioning to finish in February 2027.
Additional parking from the new Northwest Parking Structure is due to be available by early 2027.
Preparatory work is underway for the new School of Accountancy. Site fencing is now in place, and nearby roads have been closed ahead of the planned demolition of the Yerby Center in late September. The new building is expected to be completed in early 2029.
Replacement of the Shoemaker Hall access bridge is expected to be completed by late October, temporarily changing entry routes for students and staff.
Outside of main university projects, construction continues at several fraternity and sorority houses.
Recent work includes renovations and additions at several chapter houses. New residences for Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Alpha Chi Omega are expected to be completed next year.
Other chapters have projects in planning and design stages.
