Construction company NCC has received two contracts for asphalt laying in northern Sweden, with a combined value of approximately Skr175m ($18.68m).

The contracts cover road sections between Avakko and Lappeasuando in Gällivare, and between Grimsmark and Gumboda in Västerbotten.

The first contract relates to the Grimsmark-Gumboda section, where NCC is to provide 66,000 tons (t) of asphalt from its facility in Skellefteå.

Work for the first phase is scheduled for completion between 2025 and 2027.

This work is being undertaken for NYAB, with the Swedish Transport Administration as the client.

The second contract concerns the European route E10, where NCC is to lay 82,000t of asphalt between Avakko and Lappeasuando.

This second phase is expected to be carried out between 2025 and 2028.

Additionally, NCC is undertaking road reinforcement measures on this same route for the Swedish Transport Administration.

NCC claims that it uses asphalt that has approximately half the climate footprint of traditionally produced asphalt while still ensuring high quality.

The total contract value of Skr175m will be recorded in the NCC Industry business segment in the third quarter of 2025.

NCC Industry head of department Johan Brus said: “NCC has longstanding experience of earthworks and paving, and these major contracts place high demands on logistics and delivery reliability.

“It is particularly important in northern Sweden that the roads are maintained in good condition for society to function properly, and I am pleased that NCC can play a part in improving the infrastructure here.”

Recently, NCC was commissioned by Jönköping Municipality to construct a new nursing home and group home, including earth and groundworks.

The contract is valued at approximately Skr370m and will be executed under a fixed-price construction contract.

The nursing home is planned to have three floors, accommodating 97 residential units. It will also provide areas for staff operations, recreational activities, and administrative functions.
