Nordic construction company NCC has secured a contract from Karlskoga Municipality for the construction of a new swimming centre in Sweden.

The project, valued at approximately Skr440m ($43.3m), is a turnkey contract in partnering form and is set to begin immediately, with completion targeted for the first quarter (Q1) of 2028.

The planning for the swim centre has been underway since early 2023, with NCC collaborating closely with the municipality, local partners, and the company's in-house specialists.

This joint effort has led to the development of a sustainability programme aimed at addressing climate risks, promoting circularity, and optimising operational performance through life cycle cost analyses.

A key aspect of the project is the child impact assessment, which will ensure the swim centre caters to children's needs and adapts to cultural differences.

The aim is to attract new target groups and establish a safe and inclusive environment.

The centre, spanning approximately 10,000m², will feature a 25m pool with ten lanes, a multifunction pool with an adjustable floor, a diving pool with springboards of varying heights, a children's pool, and a relaxation area complete with a sauna and a gym.

The contract will be registered under the NCC Building Sweden business area in Q1 2025.

Karlskoga Municipal executive board chair Tony Ring said: “This is a major investment for Karlskoga. A new, state-of-the-art and sustainable swim centre will create better opportunities for sports, recreation and community, benefitting both residents and associations for many years to come.”

NCC Building Sweden head Niklas Sparw added: “We are pleased to develop and build the new swim centre in Karlskoga. By combining knowledge from our central team of swim centre experts with the local project team, we can work together with Karlskoga Municipality to realise the objectives of this project.”

NCC's recent ventures also include a contract awarded by the Swedish Fortifications Agency to develop the Villingsberg training ground and firing range.

Last month, NCC signed a partnering agreement with LKAB for a new sorting plant in Gällivare, Sweden.
