Lane, the US subsidiary of the Webuild Group, has secured a contract worth $238m to enhance a segment of Interstate 75 (I-75) in Marion County, Florida, US.

The project is a component of the Florida Department of Transportation's 'Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative', which is focused on upgrading the state's road infrastructure.

The contract follows closely on the heels of a $337m contract awarded to Lane for work on I-85 in North Carolina.

The I-75 project in Florida covers a 12.8km stretch seen as crucial for freight and passenger movement.

Upon completion, the project is expected to boost traffic capacity and safety, particularly during extreme climate events. It is projected to reduce northbound delays by 96% and southbound delays by 88%. Construction is set to commence in early 2026 and is anticipated to last approximately three years.

The scope of work includes adding auxiliary lanes between interchanges from State Road (SR) 200 to SR 326, replacing one bridge, constructing two new bridges, creating a new interchange at 49th Street, and implementing safety enhancements at existing interchanges with SR 40, US 27, and SR 326.

Additionally, the project will improve drainage systems, install noise abatement walls, and carry out related construction activities.

Lane is currently involved in several other projects across Florida such as the I-275/I-4 Downtown Tampa Interchange project, the Seminole Expressway/SR 417 Widening project in Seminole County, and the I-4 at SR 33 Interchange project in Polk County, among others.

Nationally, the Webuild Group is engaged in strategic projects to modernise roads and highways, including the I-77 Interchange and the Newport News section of the I-64 HREL project in Virginia.
