Hull City Council gives approval to build 1,000 homes in city centre

The works will improve on underused brownfield land at the centre of the city.

July 25 2023

Hull City Council's cabinet in the UK has approved plans for a project to construct approximately 1,000 new homes in Hull's city centre.

Proposals on three brownfield sites in the city centre will now proceed to the next phase, which includes the preparation and marketing of these sites for developer interest.

Up to 850 additional housing units will be built on one plot, which is known as East Bank Urban Village, with an additional 200 to be located at St Stephen's Place.

These sites are expected to feature social rooftop areas on the residencies themselves, outdoor play and integrated green spaces, private gardens, and sports facilities.

Another part of the project, named Myton City Gateway, is intended to be of mixed commercial use given its prominence and closeness to the A63 Castle Street renovations.

It has the potential to provide an entry point to the city centre, with significant prospects for retail, commercial, and recreational development.

The project's primary objective is to create new, inclusive neighbourhoods where people can live and work, all while improving underused brownfield land in the city centre.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has recommitted to constructing one million houses in the country before its next national election.
