Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) has announced the selection of Howeler+Yoon to design the new westside elementary school in the US state of Indiana.  

Howeler+Yoon is a domestic architectural company. 

A 16-member committee, including BCSC administrators, teachers, a student, and community members, conducted the selection process.

The BCSC Board of Trustees approved the decision. 

After reviewing proposals from four companies nominated by the Cummins Architecture Program, Howeler+Yoon is said to have been chosen for its child-centric design approach. 

The new school, part of BCSC’s Envision 2030 facilities plan, marks the district’s 12th primary school and the first to be built since 1982.  

With an estimated cost of $60m, the school will cater to approximately 650 students, supporting the city’s growth to the west and south. 

The project's construction management will be jointly handled by Taylor Bros Construction and Pepper Construction. 

BCSC director of operations Brett Boezeman said: “Eric Howeler’s vision of designing through the eyes of a child not only inspired the committee but resonated deeply within our community.  

“Howler+Yoon’s approach of being a collaborator and a synthesiser will bring a fresh perspective to our new educational space, promising a future where both aesthetics and functionality go hand in hand.” 

BCSC, located in Columbus, serves a diverse student body of roughly 11,500 students.
