Hochtief has reached an agreement to acquire Autmatec, a German company that specialises in the construction, refurbishment and installation of transmission line infrastructure.
The deal is set to expand Hochtief’s presence in the energy infrastructure sector, subject to approval by the German Federal Cartel Office.
The transaction value of the deal has not been disclosed.
Founded in 1997 and based in Walldorf, Germany, Autmatec serves major transmission and distribution network operators.
The company generated approximately €50m ($57.8m) in revenue in 2026 and employs around 80 specialists.
Autmatec’s services cover the entire overhead transmission line value chain, including site preparation, tower works, foundations, power line installation and project management.
Hochtief stated that the acquisition aligns with its strategy to pursue growth in markets shaped by long-term investment trends such as grid modernisation and energy infrastructure.
The company said European grid operators are planning major investments to support electrification, integrate renewable energy and strengthen energy security, sustaining demand for transmission line expertise.
Hochtief CEO Juan Santamaría said: “The acquisition of Autmatec is fully aligned with our strategy of investing in high-growth infrastructure markets that benefit from long-term structural demand.
“Energy infrastructure is one of the defining investment themes of our time and modern, resilient electricity networks are essential to that transformation.”
With the transaction, Hochtief aims to access Autmatec’s technical capabilities, certifications and relationships with network operators in what the company described as one of the fastest-growing infrastructure markets in Europe.
Hochtief expects the addition of Autmatec to complement the operations of Hochtief Infrastructure and Hochtief Engineering, enabling a more integrated approach to engineering, procurement and project management for transmission infrastructure.
Hochtief Infrastructure CEO Peter Hingott said: “Autmatec brings specialist expertise, strong customer relationships and a highly skilled workforce.
“By combining Autmatec's transmission line capabilities with Hochtief's engineering excellence, scale and delivery expertise, we are able to support customers as they expand and modernise critical energy infrastructure across Germany and Europe.”
Following completion, Autmatec’s current leadership team is set to remain in place.
Hochtief stated that by joining the group, Autmatec will gain improved access to resources, a broader customer network and the ability to compete for larger projects.
The company also noted that its German order book has doubled over the past four years and highlighted opportunities stemming from the government’s €500bn infrastructure plan.
