German construction company HOCHTIEF has secured a major contract for a construction project in Berlin, Germany. 

The company will be responsible to renovate and develop new offices for the Institute of Federal Real Estate, as well as managing and maintaining the property for a period of 30 years thereafter.

Construction works on this 87,000m² building are expected to commence in October and be completed within approximately five years.

HOCHTIEF CEO Juan Santamaría said: “Our strategy is to help our clients to make their buildings more sustainable.

“Because the contract covers the refurbishment and operation of the properties, we can optimise the buildings over their entire life cycle.

“As a result, we can reduce the carbon footprint, as well as the operating costs of tenants.”

The project is expected to create roughly 2,400 jobs in the borough of Treptow-Köpenick within the city.

The scope of the project involves the core renovation of four existing houses, which will connect with new structures such as training and technical operation rooms, as well as a food court.

On-site charging stations for electric vehicles and e-bikes will be established, and all rooftops will be outfitted with solar systems to generate clean energy.

HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions' spokesperson for public building construction Sandra Arendt said: “Only a few weeks after having being awarded the contract for construction and operation of the state laboratories in Kassel with a three-digit million volume, we are now pleased to have won another major contract which we will implement together with the project team of HOCHTIEF Building’s Berlin and Erfurt branches.”
