Ghella, in a joint venture (JV) with the Eteria Consortium and C.M.B., has received a contract worth around €360m ($414.6m) to extend Milan's M1 metro line in Italy.
This project will extend the 'red line' by 3.3km and add three new stations.
The contract, which includes safety-related costs and the implementation of the Legality Protocol, was obtained by a short-term JV comprising Ghella, C.M.B., and the Eteria Consortium consisting of Vianini Lavori, Itinera, and I.CO.P..
The westward extension of Milan's M1 metro line (the red line) will begin from the existing Bisceglie station and will feature a completely underground route.
The project will include three new stations: Parri-Valsesia, Baggio, and Olmi, along with six auxiliary structures.
The majority of the tunnel will be excavated using a tunnel boring machine, which is expected to minimise surface disruption.
The extension project will incorporate fire prevention technologies to enhance safety levels for passengers.
Ghella, a company engaged in constructing large-scale public infrastructure, has a track record of over 190 tunnels, connecting more than 1,000km of metros, railways, motorways, and hydraulic works.
