Freshwave submits planning application for internet pole in Filey

The pole will be raised to a specific height in order to avoid radio frequency disruption from solid objects.

July 10 2023

UK-based Freshwave Facilities has filed a planning application with North Yorkshire Council for the development of a 22.5-metre (m) internet pole.

The internet mast will be constructed at the Reighton Sands Holiday Park in the town of Filey, UK.

According to these planning documents, the 5G internet 'monopole' will feature six antenna apertures at a maximum height of 23m, as well as a cabin containing the equipment necessary to create radio signals.

The plan aims to fill the gap within the local area's coverage in an effort to address 'poor service coverage', reported the Scarborough News.

It will also address the capacity issues currently faced by the operator.

The internet mast has been designed to help continue the provision of 3G and 4G mobile connections to the local region, as well as to support 5G connectivity, thus providing ultra-fast mobile access.

The relevant antennas will be raised to a specific height due to the radio frequencies used by 5G being vulnerable to interference from solid objects.

The applicant added that the mast 'should not look out of place when sited amongst these existing structures' and that it should 'ultimately be viewed in a holiday park context with dense caravan patterns'.
