Construction has started on the East Harbour Transit Hub, a new interchange station in Toronto's Riverdale neighbourhood.

The project aims to alleviate congestion and enhance transit options for Toronto and the surrounding areas.

The hub, for which the construction contract was awarded in March 2025, is expected to serve around 100,000 daily riders, including Ontario Line users.

Crews are currently laying the station's structural foundations, which involve installing reinforced concrete caissons, drilling piles, and constructing retaining walls. These efforts will support the weight of the station and its tracks.

Following this, concrete will be poured to form the base of the main station building.

The preliminary expansion of the Eastern Avenue bridge began in 2023 to accommodate additional tracks, with the bridge set to feature six tracks upon completion.

Half of the widening work is now complete, allowing train traffic to use the new section while the other half is being expanded.

Metrolinx is actively communicating with the community to keep them informed about the construction's impact.

Located east of the Don Valley Parkway and south of Eastern Avenue, the East Harbour Transit Hub will connect riders to the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO lines and the Ontario Line subway.

This connection is stated to enable direct access to destinations along Queen Street and up to Eglinton Avenue, bypassing Union Station and potentially reducing rush hour crowding by up to 14%.

The hub will feature a concourse for transfers, a passenger pick-up and drop-off area, a customer service centre, secure and outdoor bike parking, and connections to the future Broadview Avenue extension.

It will also provide direct train connections to several key locations, including Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Stouffville, Unionville, Markham, Mississauga, Oakville, and Hamilton.

As part of the GO Expansion programme, the East Harbour Transit Hub is a collaborative initiative involving the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, the City of Toronto, and Metrolinx.

The hub will also be integrated into a 38-acre Transit Oriented Community, bringing new residential and commercial spaces to the area.
