The construction of the Ryde Hospital redevelopment project in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, has achieved a crucial milestone with the completion of interim healthcare facilities, including an intensive care and coronary care unit.

This progress ensures that essential services remain available to the community during the A$526.8m ($340.8m) project, which aims to deliver a state-of-the-art health facility by 2027.

The NSW Government's investment is expected to meet the anticipated healthcare needs of the expanding Ryde population, projected to exceed 180,000 residents by 2041.

The interim facilities offer modern amenities to maintain the standard of care at Ryde Hospital while the construction of a new six-level acute services building and basement parking is underway.

A variety of temporary facilities have now been finalised, encompassing a new interim intensive care/coronary care unit, kitchen, executive and engineering offices, and a loading dock. These facilities are crucial for supporting patients and healthcare staff throughout the redevelopment process.

The extensive Ryde Hospital redevelopment project will enhance patient and staff experiences by centralising services that were previously dispersed across 21 buildings into the new acute services building. The project's phases have been planned, with the construction of the new facility scheduled to begin next month.

The redevelopment design features the historic Denistone House and will expand existing services. The new Ryde Hospital will include an enlarged emergency department, medical imaging department, intensive care unit, operating theatres, and day-only surgical/endoscopy spaces.

Additional upgrades will encompass a purpose-built ambulatory care centre, paediatric short-stay unit, more adult inpatient beds, and improved clinical support services.

NSW Minister for Health Ryan Park said: "The Ryde Hospital redevelopment is immense in size and scale, and it’s a credit to careful planning, design and community consideration.

"We’ve ensured that essential healthcare services, including the intensive care unit, emergency department and operating theatres will remain operational throughout construction, ensuring uninterrupted care for the local community."
