Caverion to build new power line in central Finland

The solutions provider has already begun work on the project's first phase.

Finland’s national electricity transmission grid operator Fingrid has selected technical solutions provider Caverion to implement a new 110kV power line in Central Finland.

This project is expected to improve future power transmission capabilities and security.

The power line will replace an outdated version and will stretch from Kauppila to Joroinen in the region.

Fingrid project manager Tommi Olsson said: “In order to secure future power transmission capability, Fingrid will replace several power lines.

“This project also includes a section of approximately 15km to connect the Niinimäki wind farm to the grid.”

The old power line will be demolished and the old wooden power line columns will be replaced with steel columns. The electricity line to be replaced is roughly 57km long.

Caverion Industry division head Elina Engman said: “Wind power investments are progressing rapidly. The functionality of the grid and power transmission play a key role in offering clean electricity for consumption and industrial investments in Finland.

“We can help our customers in the green transition, as we can offer an extensive range of services for the entire energy sector.”

Caverion has already begun work on the project's first stage, which is approximately 41km long. This segment is set to be finished early next year, connecting Hämeenlahti in Jyväskylä to the Kauppila substation in Kangasniemi.

The second segment, from Kauppila to Hännilä, is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2025.

During construction, the project is expected to create roughly 20 jobs on average. The estimated value of the project is €11m.
