Cardiff's 16,500-capacity indoor arena has secured its final approval, marking a significant milestone in the project.

Cardiff Council and the consortium behind the project, comprising Live Nation and Robertson Property, have announced financial close for the project.

With construction set to commence, McLaren Construction has been appointed as the contractor for the arena, which is set to open in 2028 in Cardiff Bay.

Designed primarily for music, the arena aims to attract top artists and entertainment to the Welsh capital, aligning with Cardiff Council's 'Music City Strategy'.

Robertson Group CEO Elliot Robertson said: "This project is more than just a venue; it’s a catalyst for growth, creating over a thousand jobs, boosting local businesses, and solidifying Cardiff’s position as a cultural and creative hub on the global stage.”

The project will prioritise sustainability and local employment opportunities during both construction and operation, the statement added.

The venue is projected to draw over one million visitors to the area each year once operational.

Cardiff Council leader Huw Thomas added: “This arena will transform Cardiff’s visitor economy in a way nothing has since the stadium opened in 1999.

“The project will ensure that Cardiff continues to thrive as a hub of creativity and innovation.

“But crucially, this project will drive economic growth and social value, particularly in the area surrounding the arena, creating jobs and lifting horizons in some of Wales’ most economically challenged communities.”
