Construction has commenced of what is claimed to be Brunei's largest solar power plant, a 30MW solar photovoltaic (PV) facility in Kampong Belimbing.

This project, developed by Seri Suria Power, aims to generate over 64,000MWh of clean electricity annually, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels by displacing over 219,000 million British thermal units of natural gas consumption, reported Borneo Bulletin.

The plant is being constructed on a 332,900m² former landfill site and is expected to become operational by the end of 2026.

It will also serve as a learning hub, providing locals with skills for Brunei's low-carbon future.

Seri Suria Power, a joint venture (JV), has secured a 25-year power purchase agreement with the country's Department of Electrical Services, reported PVTech.

Solarvest Atlantic Blue, Serikandi Oilfield Services, and Khazanah Satu lead the JV.

Seri Suria power director Dato Paduka Awang Haji Jamain bin Haji Julaihi said: "This is more than a construction project. It is a symbol of Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to sustainable development and energy diversification."

“We are laying the foundation for a cleaner, more resilient Brunei, committed to sustainable energy for generations to come.”

The engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning works are being executed by Serikandi Solarvest, a JV of Solarvest, Serikandi Oilfield Services, and Khazanah Satu.

This project supports Brunei's goal of achieving 30% renewables in installed capacity by 2035 and a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by the end of this decade.
