American consultant Bowman Consulting Group has been commissioned by the City of Yonkers in New York, US, to deliver landscape architecture design, civil engineering, and permitting services.

The services are for the support of a two-acre waterfront park in the Ludlow community. The park will be located near the Hudson River and include vacant properties and an added bus terminal. 

The company will use its landscape architecture and civil engineering expertise to design a park that can survive recurrent floods.

The design will consist of flood-resilient components such as a stormwater drainage system, elevation of park sections, as well as using hardscape and planting materials that can withstand high water volumes.

Furthermore, Bowman completed a traffic assessment to ensure the site would not interfere with the logistics of an adjacent sugar factory and other local businesses.

Bowman's principal and professional land architect Jaryd Moran said: “We value this opportunity to help the City of Yonkers bring a new park to the Ludlow area.

“This project is an opportunity to showcase our regional knowledge and design expertise to create a valuable, flood-resilient asset for the community to enjoy.”

The project’s final design is anticipated to be ready by the end of this year, with park development set to begin in mid-2024.

Upon its completion, the park will consist of a playground, an outdoor gym, a splash pad, a boat launch with kayak rentals, an area for the local police and fire emergency offices, as well as a dock river entry.
