Balfour Beatty has secured a seven-year highways maintenance contract worth £315m ($430m) from Coventry City Council, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, and Warwickshire County Council.
The contract represents the company's third consecutive term for the Warwickshire Highways Maintenance project, extending the partnership until spring 2033.
An option to extend the contract for an additional six years is available, which could increase its total value to £900m, contingent on the successful execution of the initial term.
Balfour Beatty Living Places, the division focused on local road maintenance, street lighting, and public realm services, will oversee the delivery of various road maintenance tasks across more than 5,000km of roads. The division will also manage cyclical maintenance for over 55,000 streetlights.
The contract award follows a history of effective asset management and collaboration with the local authorities since 2011. Balfour Beatty Living Places plans to implement a digitally enabled operating model that includes a centralised planning and permitting system.
This approach aims to consolidate programme, performance, and operational data, enhancing council oversight and facilitating future advancements in inspections and service delivery.
Balfour Beatty Group CEO Philip Hoare said: “This award reflects the confidence and trust our customers place in Balfour Beatty.
“Over the last 15 years, we have worked collaboratively with our local authority partners to build a strategic infrastructure partnership that combines effective asset management and improving services to deliver strong, measurable outcomes.
“Long-term partnerships such as this are critical to the delivery of essential infrastructure, enabling sustained investment in people and services so that we can provide better outcomes for communities.”
Balfour Beatty expected an approximately 20% increase in its order book for 2025 from £18.4bn ($24.54bn) recorded at the end of 2024.
