Ferrovial’s UK Construction business, in partnership with MWH Treatment, has been named one of the contractors for Anglian Water’s Major Projects Framework, part of the utility’s £11bn ($14.7bn) investment under its Asset Management Period (AMP8) programme.
The framework, which covers major water and recycling projects across the East of England, is valued at up to £1.5bn ($2bn) and involves two separate contracts.
The Ferrovial and MWH Treatment joint venture (JV) has secured one of these contracts.
Under the arrangement, the companies will support Anglian Water in delivering a series of large infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening network resilience and improving environmental outcomes.
The initial work for the JV is forecast to include the AMP8 coastal water improvement programme, a scheme which is expected to exceed £200m in value.
These projects are intended to underpin the development of future strategic assets throughout both the AMP8 and AMP9 periods.
Anglian Water’s investment programme seeks to address the increasing demands on water systems in one of the country’s fastest-growing regions.
Developments such as Sizewell C, Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor, and the proposed Universal Studios resort are cited as factors driving the need for improved and expanded water and wastewater infrastructure.
The projects delivered through this framework are designed to support economic development and long-term water resource management.
According to the company, Ferrovial and its partners will take part in projects designed to strengthen network resilience, deliver better environmental results and aid the ongoing growth of the region.
This new framework appointment comes after Ferrovial and its water subsidiary, Cadagua, won a contract earlier in the year to lead an approximately £80m upgrade of the Slough Sewage Treatment Works for Thames Water.
Both contracts build on Ferrovial’s previous experience in water infrastructure, including its involvement in the Central Section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
Earlier this month, the Georgia Department of Transportation and the State Road and Tollway Authority chose the Top End Mobility Group consortium, led by Ferrovial, to design, finance, construct, operate and maintain the first phase of the I-285 East Express Lanes project in Atlanta, US.
