Infrastructure company AECOM has been named as the technical advisor and lead consultant for VicGrid, a newly formed Victorian government agency in Australia.

The agency is set to plan and develop energy infrastructure to offer an efficient electricity grid in the state.

AECOM will collaborate with a team of specialist contractors and with GHD, a multidisciplinary professional services network, which will serve as the key subconsultant for VicGrid.

As the technical advisor, AECOM will offer essential support for the development and delivery of VicGrid’s energy infrastructure programme.

Services include engineering, land planning, and environmental approvals.

A significant aspect of the collaboration also involves an alliance with indigenous First Nations subcontractors.

AECOM global environment business CEO Frank Sweet said: “Our energy specialists have established themselves as trusted advisors for some of the world’s largest power utilities as they drive progress on the energy transition.

“We continue to grow our leadership in the energy and power sectors, and we look forward to collaborating with VicGrid to realise more sustainable, reliable energy infrastructure that benefits millions of customers across Victoria.”

This initiative is part of Victoria's broader strategy to transform its power grid and facilitate the shift towards renewable energy sources.

VicGrid is poised to coordinate the planning, development, and delivery of the state’s Renewable Energy Zones and transmission infrastructure.

It aims to lead investments in projects that will bolster and modernise Victoria’s energy grid. This includes the integration of new offshore wind resources into the grid.

AECOM CEO Australia and New Zealand Mark McManamny said: “We are excited to work with our partners to support VicGrid in delivering the energy transition and providing safe and affordable power for Victorians.

“Our team brings deep technical knowledge and capability, leading environment and energy credentials, and valuable local and global experience to deliver across the entire project life cycle.”

Earlier this month, the US Air Force Civil Engineer Center appointed AECOM to provide global architecture and engineering services.

This contract operates under an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity framework and will support various environmental initiatives for the US Air Force and other federal entities.
