Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has revealed plans for a series of upgrades to major roads in Musaffah, aiming to reduce congestion, enhance safety and shorten journey times.
The improvements are intended to benefit travel between the industrial area, Mohamed Bin Zayed City and Zayed City.
Works will focus on a stretch of about 13km along the E30 and 8th Street routes.
Plans for 8th Street include the construction of a new highway with three lanes in each direction. There will also be three separate lanes on each side to provide access to local shops and services while maintaining smooth traffic flow on the main expressway.
According to DMT, this expanded roadway will be capable of supporting the movement of approximately 4,000 vehicles per hour.
Upgrades also encompass improvements at four interchanges on the E30, stronger links between 8th Street and E20, and modifications to nine major junctions throughout the area.
In addition, the department intends to construct two new bridges connecting Musaffah and Mohamed Bin Zayed City, as well as a dedicated pedestrian bridge.
DMT infrastructure development director general Eisa Mubarak Al Mazrouei said: “Musaffah’s road network serves residents travelling to work, businesses moving goods and people making local journeys throughout the day. Planning for these different needs is essential to the area’s continued growth.
“By separating traffic passing through the area from local access and improving connections with surrounding communities, we can support economic activity while making everyday journeys easier and safer.
“This forward-looking approach will also prepare the network for future connections, ensuring that decisions we make today support Abu Dhabi’s development over the longer term.”
The Musaffah road improvement project forms part of broader infrastructure efforts across the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Other initiatives include plans for a two-tunnel undersea route linking the eastern edge of Abu Dhabi Island with Musaffah, set to pass beneath both Khor Al Maqta and the Al Hudayriyat Island channel.
Earlier this month, Jordan and the UAE commenced construction of the Aqaba–Al-Shidiyeh–Maan Railway Project, a $2.5bn scheme designed to link the Red Sea port city of Aqaba with major mining and logistics centres in southern Jordan.
