YIT has initiated the construction of a new residential complex, Asunto Oy Seinäjoen Asemapäällikkö, in the Veturikortteli area of Seinäjoki, Finland.

The project, valued at approximately €7m ($7.61m), is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2024.

Throughout its construction, the site aims to exclusively use renewable electricity.

Situated near the Seinäjoki railway station, the six-storey building will feature 30 apartments and two commercial spaces, covering a gross floor area of roughly 2,200m².

Asemapäällikkö is designed to meet class A energy standards, with solar panels on the roof to supply part of the electricity for the housing company.

The property will also provide residents with the option to track their water usage through the YIT Plus service.

The residential units will vary in size from 25.5m² to 104m² while the two commercial premises will have a total area of approximately 230m².

The development plans include a car-free courtyard, with residential parking provided at Seipark’s parking facility within the block, featuring electric vehicle charging stations.

YIT regional manager Mikael Snellman said: “The Asemapäällikkö housing company project in the Veturikortteli [area] has attracted the interest of homebuyers, and many pre-reservations have been made. Now we can begin the construction work.”

Additionally, the Seinäjoki station area is undergoing redevelopment, including the station hall’s renovation and new commercial and office spaces at the site.

The business premises in the station building, totalling 18,000m², are set to be completed around the turn of the year 2024-2025.

South Ostrobothnian Welfare Region has acquired 80% of the premises of Aallokko and Asematalo from the eQ Yhteiskuntakiinteistöt special investment fund.
