Winvic Construction has been selected to undertake work on two projects around Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, UK.

Developer PATRIZIA UK has selected Winvic Construction to build a £93m mixed-use scheme, named ‘The Residences’.

The scheme will comprise 375 build-to-rent apartments – 189 one-bedroom, 169 two-bedroom and 17 three-bedroom – within the Edgbaston Residences, and offer car parking and cycle storage. It will also feature approximately 20,000ft² of commercial space on the ground floor.

Under the contract, Winvic will be responsible for constructing the five concrete-framed blocks of five, seven, eight, 13 and 18-storeys in-situ utilising two tower cranes.

The mixed-use scheme will feature a landscaped podium deck with undercroft car parking and also a rooftop amenity space, which covers an area of approximately 3,000ft².

Winvic will also undertake full fit-out and handover the project over five phases. The work is planned for completion in the second half of 2023.

Additionally, Winvic has been selected to deliver improvement works for Warwickshire County Cricket Club (WCCC) ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Under the contract, Winvic will create 76,000ft² of car parking and a large piazza ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 18 months.

Winvic will initially undertake ground works as well as demolish a derelict building on the western side of the stadium in preparation for the reconfiguration of the existing car park and creation of new parking areas.

The company will build a new 56,500ft² entrance plaza to enhance the main arrival space for visitors.

Patrizia UK and Ireland development head Daniel Williams said: “With this new development, we are building a vibrant community where people will want to live.

“We are at the same time addressing Birmingham’s acute need for first-rate and affordable rental accommodation aimed at local residents, as well as those visiting Edgbaston Stadium.”

Warwickshire CCC chief operating officer Craig Flindall said: “In the coming weeks we intend to reveal plans for the third phase of the Edgbaston Masterplan, which will include the next phase of the redevelopment of the stadium.”
