UK-based construction company Willmott Dixon has been appointed as the preferred contractor to deliver the Goole Hub redevelopment project.

Selected by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the company will develop a multipurpose facility on North Street in the East Yorkshire town centre.

The council appointed the company through the YORbuild3 framework for the project.

This £16m community hub development project involves redeveloping East Riding Leisure’s centre.

Post-completion, Goole Hub will offer health, fitness, and recreation facilities.

Goole Hub is designed by Watson Batty Architects and will add more than 1,600m² of additional floor space to the existing site.

The hub will provide a range of community-based amenities such as a library, soft play area, ten-pin bowling alley, customer service centre, food court, laser tag area, and learner pool with fitness suite.

Willmott Dixon director Nick Heath said: “The all-new Goole Hub will provide a connection between culture, recreation, and leisure in one easily accessible location, and there is a real ambition to create a new destination within the town.

“Ageing leisure facilities are fast becoming out of touch with modern requirements, so it’s our job to not just deliver a building but create a high-quality multipurpose destination for the people of Goole, which will enhance lives and serve multiple generations.

“It will incorporate sustainable energy technologies – such as solar panels and air-source heat pumps – to ensure it performs more efficiently and runs as healthily as its users.”

Most of the existing East Riding Leisure Goole facility will be demolished as part of this Goole Town Deal-funded redevelopment to make enough space for Goole Hub.

Willmott Dixon will also renovate the current swimming pool, changing facilities, and spectator areas at the site.
