Walmart Canada has broken ground on a new distribution centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.

The 223,000ft2 facility will be situated at 135 Frenette Avenue. It is slated to open next year and will be the company’s first distribution centre in Atlantic Canada region.

The Moncton centre will provide fresh and frozen groceries to 43 Walmart stores improving product availability and quicker service in the region. It will also reduce the need for long-haul truck deliveries thereby supporting environmental sustainability.

The facility will also feature white reflective roof, LED lighting with integrated motion sensors and intelligent controls, aligned with Walmart’s sustainability efforts.

Additionally, waste heat generated from the refrigeration system at the new facility will be used to supply underfloor heating systems.

The project is expected to create more than 200 jobs in Moncton as well as in surrounding communities, including over 100 roles inside the distribution centre.
