Bane NOR has commissioned Veidekke to build tunnel and surface zone for a dual track railway from Kleverud to Tangenvika alongside Lake Mjøsa in Innlandet, Norway.

Veidekke will be responsible for designing and building the project.

The contract, worth approximately $145.5m (NOK1.3bn) excluding VAT, also includes options worth approximately $33.58m (NOK300m).

This is among the first of the major contracts associated to Bane NOR’s InterCity project on the Kleverud-Sørli-Åkersvika stretch of the Dovre Line.

Scope of the works include just under 5km of groundworks between Kleverud and Espa for the new dual track route intended for speeds of up to 250 km/h, including the 3km Hestnes Tunnel.

Veidekke group chief executive Jimmy Bengtsson said, “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and are looking forward to a great partnership with Bane NOR whom we are already carrying out several large commissions for.

“The project will have a positive ripple effect on the local community and local businesses, and is future-oriented in terms of delivering efficient, eco-friendly transportation. The contract ensures the preferred development trajectory for our project portfolio in terms of civil engineering operations,

Bane NOR expansion director Stine Undrum said: “We are very pleased to have secured the services of a robust, experienced construction expert in the form of Veidekke to help us ensure that journey times between Oslo and Hamar are reduced, that more passenger trains are able to travel in each direction every hour, and that the capacity for eco-friendly freight is in place once the dual track route is completed on schedule in 2027.”

The contract is added in Veidekke Infrastructure’s order book for the first quarter of this year.

The company will begin design work and preparatory activities immediately, while construction work is slated to begin during the second quarter of this year.
