The Western Australia (WA) Government has announced that the construction of the Turkey Point Access Road and Bridge will soon be underway.
The Turkey Point Access Road and Bridge project represents phase two of the overarching Port of Bunbury infrastructure project in the state.
Fulton Hogan has been appointed to construct the dual-use path, road, and bridge project, which is being supported by an A$34m ($24.5m) investment from the regional government.
This appointment follows the completion of the tender process for suppliers in late 2023.
WA Ports Minister David Michael said: “This Turkey Point access road and bridge is an important part of Southern Ports’ Port of Bunbury’s Master Plan that will help unlock more trade opportunities for Berth 8 and future trade through additional berths.
“The project will also increase safety for the community and port users by diverting public road users away from the port and providing direct access to Turkey Point.”

By GlobalDataThis construction is intended to connect Estuary Drive to Leschenault Drive, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and minimise the interaction between port-related vehicles and public road users.
Construction of the Turkey Point Access Road and Bridge follows extensive planning, including environmental approvals, community consultations, and engineering design.
The first phase, which included site investigations, was completed last year.
An alternative access road and bridge to Turkey Point and Vittoria Bay will be built, funded by Royalties for Regions, to further reduce traffic issues.
The broader impact of this project is set to be significant, with the promise of supporting local jobs and stimulating the economy.
It is also expected to enhance trade through the Port of Bunbury by ensuring the port’s northern berths are equipped for future trade facilitation.
WA Regional Development Minister Don Punch said: “I’m pleased to see this vital regional project come to life, creating jobs and enhancing our economic development as part of our Royalties for Regions programme.
“Turkey Point is a much-loved recreational amenity for our Bunbury community and having safer and easier access is a bonus for everyone.”
Completion of the present phase is anticipated by mid-2025.
This announcement comes after the WA government delivered the A$31.7m upgraded Karratha Senior High School.
