Transport for London (TfL) has announced the award of five new contracts to ensure safe and more sustainable journeys on London’s roads.

These contracts were awarded as part of TfL’s Surface Transport Infrastructure Construction Framework that will help to ensure walking and cycling projects to be delivered to a high standard.

The five winners include Costain, construction company Eurovia Infrastructure, infrastructure services company FM Conway, Tarmac Kier JV and VolkerFitzpatrick.

They will deliver renewal work on much of the infrastructure that the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN) depends on, including bridges, road tunnels and river assets.

The work on the contracts also includes construction of enhancements of highways infrastructure, as well as the delivery of early input, design and construction work through the framework.

The contractors will also support the delivery of new schemes to boost walking and cycling across the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN), as well as the future projects to expand London’s growing network of high-quality Cycleways.

TfL stated that these projects will allow more people in England to make journeys by bike and on foot, while reducing congestion, air pollution and road danger across the city.

Additionally, this framework will run for six years from April until March 2027 for use by TfL, London Boroughs and other authorities whose developments impact the TfL road network.

TfL Project and Programme Delivery director Nick Fairholme said: “This new contract framework will help us to deliver further vital walking and cycling schemes across London, and ensure that these important infrastructure assets on our road network are safe and well maintained for years to come.”
