This 20-mile, 21-station elevated system will link West Oahu with the Honolulu International Airport, downtown Honolulu, and the Ala Moana Center, a major shopping center.

It is estimated that Honolulu’s population will grow 10% by 2045, and HART light rail will support this growth by linking people with jobs, healthcare, and education.

HART CEO and executive director Lori Kahikina said: “Light rail is an essential part of improving transportation in Hawaii and reaching our climate goals.

“Providing a connecting spine through downtown, important transit centers, and the airport will vastly improve our transit system. Stantec has been with us from the early days, and we value their expertise and longstanding service in delivering the project.”

HART is one of several large-scale transit projects being delivered by Stantec currently.

The firm is serving as the lead engineer of the $1.9bn Long Island Rail Road expansion for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York. It is also leading the design on the Chicago Transit Authority’s $2.1bn Red and Purple Modernization Program.
