Construction firm Skanska in a joint venture with New South Construction, FS360 and Synergy Construction has been selected to construct five additional gates at the north end of Concourse T at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (Hartsfield-Jackson).

The joint venture, which is led by Skanska, will also rebuild a major portion of the North Terminal exit road. It will also construct a Delta Air Lines ground support equipment facility and a fire station and will oversee relocations to the utilities’ infrastructure.

The $124.5m project forms part of a broader expansion and renovation plan, ATLNext, which will enhance capacity, renew and replace existing facilities and enhance the airport’s aesthetic appeal.

Skanska building operations executive vice-president and general manager in Georgia and South Carolina Scott Cannon said: “We are proud to support the effort to help secure Hartsfield-Jackson’s position as the busiest and most efficient airport in the world.

“The Concourse T-North Extension and renovation effort will enhance the level of customer service, while meeting passengers’ changing needs.”

Work is already underway at the airport which included demolishing and relocating existing facilities and infrastructure to make way for the expansion.

Construction of the new concourse is set to begin in this month and is excepted to be completed by December next year.

Skanska has also worked on the modernisation of the airside of the Central Passenger Terminal Complex at Hartsfield-Jackson.

The modernisation work included installing new metal ceilings, LED lighting, flooring and wayfinding signage. The other renovations were at the airside, the domestic concourses, train stations and tunnels.
