Last week, Skanska signed about $137m (SEK1.2bn) worth contract with the Stockholm Regional Council for the construction of a new stage of metro in Nacka, Sweden.

As part of the contract, a new metro tunnel of nearly 1,200m will be built, in addition to platform space and two ticket halls for Nacka station.

This is part of the new metro’s Blue Line expansion, where Nacka is the final station on the eastern extension.

Primary work will include rock tunnels and shafts, earthwork in the tunnels, rock above-ground. Other main tasks to be carried out are concrete work, temporary installations and traffic diversions.

Skanska plans to start construction work in the first quarter of next year.

The project is slated for completion during the first quarter of 2026 and will focus on reducing climate impact.

Last month, Skanska received a contract from Union Investment to construct rental apartments in Helsinki, Finland.

The contract, worth €68m, is being included in the company’s Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter of this year.

The 33-storey building totalling around 18,400m2 will feature 288 rental apartments. It will also include rooftop solar panels, which will provide electricity to the property.

Construction work on the project is planned to commence this month with completion scheduled by the fourth quarter of 2024.
