Infrastructure services company Centuri Group’s Riggs Distler has been awarded a contract to support the construction of an offshore wind project, named Ocean Wind 1, in New Jersey, US.

The contract was signed by the company with LJUNGSTRӦM earlier this week.

LJUNGSTRÖM will collaborate with Riggs to provide an additional 60,000 labour hours for the predevelopment and delivery of steel components for the turbines.

Riggs will serve as a tier-one contractor and provide secondary steel for the project, which is being developed by offshore wind company Ørsted.

This project will provide 1,100MW of renewable energy to New Jersey, powering half a million homes by 2040.

The scope of the works covers the development of large, specialised items that are key components of wind turbine foundations, including boat landings and ladders, exterior concrete platforms, supported interior platforms, monopile doors, and anode cages.

Riggs president and CEO Steve Zemaitatis said: “From onshore substation, duct bank, and utility interconnection construction, to fabricating, constructing, assembling, inspecting, and providing onshore installation of advanced foundation components for offshore wind farms, we are enabling hundreds of thousands of American homes to be powered by clean energy while building the local supply base to support this exciting renewable industry.”

Riggs Distler intends to invest more than 300,000 labour hours in total for this project.

Crystal Steel, which was also selected for the project, will provide an extra 115,000 labour hours to build the boat landings and ladders for the wind turbine’s base.
