North America’s construction & real estate industry saw a drop of 1.2% in deal activity during March 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 82 construction & real estate industry deals worth $6.61bn were announced for the region in March 2019, against the 12-month average of 81 deals.

Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in March 2019 with 55 transactions, representing a 67.1% share for the region.

In second place was venture financing with 21 deals, followed by private equity deals with six transactions, respectively capturing a 25.6% and 7.3% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in North America’s construction & real estate industry with $4.5bn, while venture financing and private equity deals totalled $1.11bn and $1bn, respectively.

North America construction & real estate industry deals in March 2019: Top deals

The top five construction & real estate deals accounted for 91% of the overall value during March 2019.

The combined value of the top five construction & real estate deals stood at $6.01bn, against the overall value of $6.61bn recorded for the month. The top announced construction & real estate deal tracked by GlobalData in March 2019 was $2.2bn merger of Cousins Properties and TIER REIT.

In second place was the $2bn acquisition of HFF by Jones Lang LaSalle and in third place was CCMP Capital Advisors’ $1bn private equity deal with Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions Canada.

The $800m venture financing of Tianjin Hut Information Technology by Tencent Holdings and Crescent Real Estate Holdings’ venture financing of Dvele for $14m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
