Danish consulting engineering group Ramboll has acquired Singapore-based design and engineering consultancy Web Structures.

According to Ramboll, the deal is expected to strengthen its position in Southeast Asia with the addition of 120 designers to the company’s 4,500 building designers.

Web Structures, which has main offices in Singapore and Malaysia, has delivered projects in Singapore and Malaysia that include the Ardmore Residence and the Mediacorp Campus in Singapore, as well as the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the Four Seasons Resort in Seychelles.

Web Structures provides design services for high-rise buildings and the acquisition is expected to support Ramboll’s high-rise division’s ability to provide solutions internationally as well as in the Nordic markets.

Since 1996, Web Structures has undertaken more than 650 projects in more than 28 countries.

With a presence in Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and London, specialist design services are also offered by the civil, structural and geotechnical practice.

Ramboll Buildings managing director Richard Beard said: “It underlines our commitment to Asia and is integral to our international growth strategy.

“With more colleagues based in Singapore, Ramboll can offer integrated services across the built environment.

“Joining forces with Web Structures fits perfectly with Henning Larsen Architects who recently became part of Ramboll. We want to strengthen our dialogue with clients in the early stages of projects, raising the sustainability agenda to the forefront.”

In August last year, Ramboll was selected by Syvab, a water utility company in Sweden’s Botkyrka Municipality, as the main consultant for a new wastewater treatment plant with membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology.

The new facility was intended to meet increasing wastewater volumes and stricter demands for nutrient reduction in treated water released to the Baltic Sea.

With 300 offices in 35 countries, Ramboll works across markets that include buildings, transport, planning & urban design, water, environment & health, energy and management consulting.
